India’s Tactical Interdiction & Attack Air Vehicle (TIA-AV 50) Mystery Program

Air Chief Marshal V.R. Chaudhari, Chief of the Air Staff in 2022, confirmed for the first time that the IAF has initiated many different programme to develop and integrate the relevant niche technologies in the unmanned programme, and that this has been done in collaboration with private industry.

Manned Unmanned Teaming (MUM-T), Air Launched Flexible Assets – Swarm (ALFA-S), and Tactical Interdiction & Attack Air Vehicle are among these programme (TIA-AV 50).

Air interdiction (AI) is defined by the Air Force as air operations conducted to divert, disrupt, delay, or destroy the enemy’s military potential before it can be effectively used against friendly forces.

The Attack Air vehicle confirms that its primary mission will be to conduct Depp strike missions over enemy positions.

Under Project Ghataak, India has been working on developing stealthy unmanned strike aircraft, but TIA-AV 50 appears to be a much smaller programme that will come much before Project Ghataak.
