On February 13, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Defence PSU Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) helicopter unit at Bidarehalla Kaval in Gubbi taluk.
The helicopter factory, which spans 615 acres in Tumakuru, is ready to begin phase-1 operations, with the completion of the manufacturing, structural assembly, final assembly-line facilities, helipad, flight hangar, ATC, equipping hangar, admin building, and other facilities.

This helicopter factory will be used to manufacture Light Utility Helicopters (LUH), as well as Indian Multi Role Helicopters in the future.
The Russian Kamov-226 (Ka-226) was also supposed to be manufactured here under license agreements, but the deal has yet to be finalized.
In the second phase, an engine facility, a carbon filament and composites factory, and other facilities will be built.
