KAI seeks partner for its MC-X transport aircraft program, India to be approached

Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) unveiled a model of a proposed new turbofan-powered multirole transport aircraft called the MC-X at the 2022 Military Exhibition.

According to a KAI official, the company is currently discussing its requirements with the Republic of Korea Air Force (RoKAF), but it is also in talks with other countries that may be interested in joining the programme as a partner.

KAI officials are eager to offer the MC-X concept to Asian countries in need of aircraft that fall between the C-130 and A400M platforms.

The MC-X concept proposal might be made available to countries such as the UAE, Indonesia, India, and the Philippines that might be interested in participating in the programme according to KAI officials.

We have been told that KAI officials have not made any official presentation to the India side yet, since it is still in concept stage and detail engineering work is yet to be carried out and specification is yet to be set.

The MC-X appears to be in the same class as the Embraer C-390 Millennium, which has already offered its C-390 military transport aircraft to the Indian Air Force and has held discussions with the Indian State-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. According to KAI officials, the MC-X will most likely fly for the first time in 2030.
